Safetyz.com
I built a site for a friend of a friend recently. It's just a flash splash page and a single page site. They are launching a new clothing line called Safetyz.

You can check it out here Safetyz.com

Yahoo! Finance News Article
I did a majority of the work on the websites discussed in this new article with my boss John. Not my best work but it was at least interesting to see how things are represented in other languages.

Chiwetel Ejiofor Portrait

This is the first line art portrait that I was commissioned to do. It is a portrait of actor Chiwetel Ejiofor. It was commissioned by his sister as a gift. I used the picture below as the basis for the portrait. I didn't like the shirt he was wearing in this picture so I took the shirt from another photo of him I found on the web. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. He and his sister were very happy with it as well. I hope to have a picture of him with the portrait soon.
I'm working on another commission right now. I will post it on the site after it's done.

Tiki Bars
A few years ago, I was dumb enough to boast that I could build a tiki bar better than one my friends and I had seen at a party. The challenge was made and 5 tiki bars were born. For years I had kept one of them for myself but decided to sell it before I move to a new condo this week. It went to a friend of mine who set it up in his house. It almost felt like a member of the family was leaving.

It went to a good home, which is all that matters. You can see some of the other bars I built in various stages of construction here:

Bars are custom built and available for pre-order. Leave a comment or email me if you are intersted.

The Drink & Draw Social Club at Meltdown Comics
Last night Tony, Toby and I went up to Meltdown Comics in LA. They were hosting an event called the "Drink & Draw Social Club". It is a group started by comic book artist Dave Johnson and includes other artists such as Dan Panosian, Jeff Johnson, Josh Middleton, and many others. To find out more about the group check out their websites:

or
http://www.myspace.com/drinkanddraw
One of the members of the group was tattoo artist Kat Von D who you may know from the show Miami Ink. She was really nice and much taller than I expected her to be.

While we were there I picked up a 2 pieces from Dave Johnson and one from Jeff Johnson. I also got some sweet monkey sketches from the artists that were there.

It was a really fun night. Nothing quite like a bunch of drunk comic artists sitting around drawing. You can check out the rest of the picture I took here: http://monkey1.phanfare.com/album/209359

New Lineart Projects
For Christmas last year, I did the series of pictures above as gifts for friends and family. I basically took existing photos of the people and redrew the images using Macromedia Fireworks 8. I'm really happy with how most of them came out. You can see bigger versions of the images on my gallery site here: http://monkey1.phanfare.com/album/202879 .I did another one on commision that I will be posting shortly. A girl that works with a friend of mine wanted one done of her brother to give to him as a gift. He is an actor who is making a bigger and bigger name for himself. After she gives it to him I will post the art as well as a picture of him with it (hopefully). It was really cool to work on because it's an actor I like and it might drum up more business.
If you are interested in getting one of these done please leave your contact info in the comments or send me an email here:

The New (and incredibly boring) Monkey1.com
Hey Kids,
I decided not to renew my .mac account that I started last year. It was a good place to experiment, but I wasn't really happy with how iWeb integrated with the .mac platform. It was too hard to customize and took way to long to load. I think after a while Apple will figure it out but it wasn't worth $100 a year for me to continue using it. So, this blog will be the new host for monkey1.com. I am going to try and be more diligent about posting and using this as a porfolio site to display stuff I am working on. Over the next few weeks I will try to spice up this site so it's not so "blah".
Anyway, check back soon and hopefully there will be new and exciting (probably not THAT exciting) stuff to see.
